Why we loved the PKTMNY and Britmums Project

My daughter Jadyn was thrilled to have her own PKTMNY account. Jadyn is saving to buy herself an iPod. She used the account to see how much she had in her account and how much more she needed. She still has some way to go before she gets there especially since she wants to keep buying little things but at least she has a goal in mind and she is reminded every time she visits the site.

Jadyn has only made a single purchase so far. She wants to use her pocket money to get small gifts for her siblings so we will be looking at doing that this weekend.

Jadyn was thrilled with having her own card. She feels really grown up and loves looking at her card with her name on it. She checks with me every time we go shopping if I have the card in case she wants to get something. I saw the joy on her face when she made her first purchase and I think that PKTMNY is doing a great job bringing smiles to children’s faces.

Jadyn thinks the visual representation is great. However, since she is quite young, this feature is not so important to her. I think it is more for older children who have a consistent spending pattern. It is also great for parents as they are able to see in one shot how their children have been spending their money.

Jadyn has learnt to budget in a small way as she wants to keep her money for her wish list. She loves to see her money going in every week and has learnt to calculate how much she has earned through the small tasks set out for her.

I believe that PKTMNY is a great site and it has reinforced my child’s good habits of spending. She looks forward to the one off payments for extra special work at school or around the house. I have seen her become more responsible and she is now more aware of money and budgeting. I think this project will go a long way and will help her to a great extent in later years.
This post is part of a project with BritMums, sponsored by PKTMNY, highlighting it’s launch (http://www.pktmny.com). The new tool allows parents to easily pay and monitor their children’s pocket money online, whilst allowing their children to earn, save, spend and manage their money in a totally safe and fun way.
