Visiting San Clemente in Orange County, California

The great thing about being in Southern California is that there is so much to see and do around here. The beaches are just a short drive away from Los Angeles and you can also drive to the hills and yes – see snow on the mountain tops if you so wish. Not far from where we live – we’re in the Greater Los Angeles area, is the beautiful little city of San Clemente. It is within Orange County, California.

A few weeks back, we took a trip to this beautiful city via the PCH or the famous Pacific Coast Highway. As we neared San Clemente, we could have easily been in one of the Mediterranean towns with the spectacular views of the coast and the houses that are built in the Spanish colonial style.

San Clemente Pier

The pier goes quite far out to the sea so it’s a good walk along it. There are a few restaurants at the top of the pier and you can see loads of fishermen along it too.

We wanted to do more than visit the pier and the beach and we decided to do the San Clemente Coastal Trail.

This trail is about 2.3 miles long and starts at Calafia Beach and ends at North Beach. San Clemente beach is about halfway between the two end points. We started our hike from San Clemente Beach and headed towards North Beach. You can keep to the wide path and head down to the beach at certain points. It took us about an hour to do the walk from San Clemente Beach to North Beach – we did make quite a few stops on the way to take photos and to take in the views.

The views are stunning especially if it is a clear day. When we first arrived, it was quite overcast but we soon had blue skies which made for amazing photos.

There are no places to stop and have a bite along the trail nor is there any drinking water, so do be sure to carry your own water and some snacks if you are with children. It is an easy trail to do with children.
