The parent trap – how to balance your parental responsibilities and your studies as a mature student

Congratulations for deciding to head back into education. It’s a momentous decision, that means you now have to balance your work, your studies and your responsibilities as a parent, without dropping the ball.

While it might feel like you’ve got a mountain to climb whilst you’re performing your magical juggling act, you can rest assured that it’ll all be worth it. Whether you’re looking to improve your career prospects, set a good example for your kids, or just learn something new – you’ve got this!

Thankfully, there are ways you can get the most from your studies and still be the very best parent you can be. Want to know more? Read on for how to balance your parental responsibilities and your studies as a mature student.

Invest in a proofreading service

When you’ve spent hours working on a thesis or a paper, it’s easy for the smallest of mistakes to slip through the net and past your tired eyes. This is when a thesis proofreading service can come in handy. It’ll pick up on any spelling, grammar and sentence structure issues and bring them to your attention. Allowing you to clean up your errors, build on your writing skills and hand in your completed thesis with confidence. When you’re juggling lots of responsibilities, it makes sense to utilise the tools that are available to you.

Work out a schedule

Ok, as a parent you’re probably well aware that schedules don’t always pan out the way you want them to. However, creating even a basic structure can help keep you on track and hitting all those deadlines with time to spare. Figure out when is the best time of day for you to study – when the kids are taking a nap? Or when they’ve gone to bed? Figure out what assignments and exams you’ve got coming up so you can prioritise time for additional study.

Get the kids involved

Do you have teens at home? Or a little one with their own assignments to get on with? If so, why not have a study session together? It’s a positive and influential environment that you’ll both thrive on. You’ll be amazed at how much progress you’ll both make.

Ask for help

You’re a grown adult with responsibilities, but that doesn’t mean you can’t ask for help when you need it. There’s absolutely no shame in it, and you’re not admitting defeat by reaching out. Speak with your tutor if you need an extension, ask your partner for a little more support with the kids, or see if grandparents can help you for an hour or so.
