The Green – Book Review

Title: The Green
Author: Karly Kirkpatrick
Genre: YA

How far would you go to save your dream?
Seventeen-year-old Ariceli Pisa is a senior at the prestigious Cambridge High School and has her sights set on Northwestern University. She’s a cheerleader, a member of the National Honor Society…and a drug dealer. That’s not the only secret she has to keep from her best friend Naomi–she’s also madly in love with Naomi’s ex-boyfriend, James Bartlett. Trying to balance her life at Cambridge High with her new demanding job keeps her teetering on the edge of disaster.
The Green is a work of fiction no doubt but there is a lot of truth in it. It shows us to what extent people are pushed to simply to make money. Ariceli goes to a great high school even though the family can least afford it. She is a good student, a cheerleader and dreams of going on to University.
She has a rude awakening one day when she finds out that her brother deals in drugs and this is how she is able to attend the school. However, he is arrested and Ari takes a decision to go and do his job. She soon realises that she is way out of her depth. Her school suffers and so does her sleep as she struggles to complete her orders on time.
It is a book that most teens  will relate to and is recommended for YA readers.
A very well written book, The Green will hold your attention and you will find yourself waiting to complete it as soon as you can simply because you need to know how it ends. A great book for the holiday period coming up.
