I always loved knitting – it was great to see my work getting longer and taking form. Jadyn was also keen to begin knitting and I tried to teach her once but obviously I must be a bad teacher as she gave up quite easily.
On being asked to review the Shimmer and Sparkle Cra-Z-Knit Ultimate Design Station from Character, I was thrilled. I had looked at it on the internet and it looked so easy to do and so much fun too. Basically, I could not wait to try it out myself.
The Cra-Z-Knit Ultimate Design Studio has all one needs to make scarves, hats, gloves and legwarmers.
- 4 balls of yarn
- Knitting desk
- 2 looms – one rectangular and one round
- 1 knitting hook
- 1 plastic needle
- Coloured/sparkly thread to make tassels
- Stickers
The stickers need to be placed as mentioned. Then just pick your yarn and begin. There is no assembly required other than the changing for looms for different creations.
It is really easy to use the loom as all one needs to do is wrap the yarn around the pegs and and then pull the lower bit of yarn over the top one – much like the Cra-Z-Loom.
The loom fits snug in the knitting desk and it is easy to have it on your lap while you knit. There are also storage areas on both sides to store your yarn.
Jadyn found it extremely easy to knit with this. It does however take time to make a scarf so we are still nowhere near completion but Jadyn sits diligently and does a bit everyday. We used double yarn as suggested and it does look rather nice. You can use single yarn too but I think the double yarn gives it a much more chunky look perfect for cold winter days.
We haven’t looked at all we can make but the instructions suggest that you can even make phone cases and bags and Jadyn can’t wait to try this out. I’m sure there will be many updates to this post as I will be posting photos as we go.
Since it is so easy to add yarn even while in the midst of your creation, you can add colours to your scarf or hat and make it all the more unique.
I think it is so much easier than knitting for a child as there are no fiddly needles and there is no worry of them getting poked or poking anyone else.
A little tip – keep the tension of the yarn a little loose so it is easy to hook it over the first stitch as it can get quite tight and may be difficult for a child to do.
The entire kit does not compromise on quality and I have to say that I quite enjoy knitting on it as much as Jadyn does.
The Cra-Z-Knit retails at £29.99 and is great value for money. It would make a wonderful present for under the Christmas tree or get it now so that your child can knit fabulous presents for the family for Christmas.
