Roald Dahl Day: Costume Review

When the children’s school declared a day dedicated to Ronald Dahl, I wasn’t surprised. After all he is a great children’s author and is known as the greatest storyteller for children of the 20th century.

Of course, celebrating Roald Dahl day had to involve dressing up; dressing up meant getting costumes ready; getting costumes ready means first deciding who they want to be.

For girls, Roald Dahl characters are not tough to do – witches or Matilda. Jadyn had made up her mind – she wanted to be a witch from Witches.

Ethan – well, he wanted to go as Iron man or Spider-Man and could not quite understand why he couldn’t. At 4, Roald Dahl is not a common name.

So this was my chance to give him a crash course. I told him quickly about Roald Dahl and how great a children’s writer he was.

And then we finally made up our minds that he would go as Willy Wonka from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Next problem – where do we get the costumes from and how soon would it be delivered? It was on short notice as we had less than 5 days.

Luckily came to our rescue and sent us two costumes to review – a witch for Jadyn and Willy Wonka for Ethan.

Willy Wonka Costume

For Jadyn, we chose the Girl’s Scary Witch Halloween Costume and it is quite pretty really. In black and purple, it has draped sleeves and purple fabric inserts with a cobweb design. It also comes with a lovely witch’s hat. Be sure to iron it before you use it as then it drapes beautifully.

She wanted webs drawn on her face so we got up really early on the day to get it all done. The finished product was gorgeous and she made a beautiful witch.

The Scary Witch costume is available for £10.99 and would make a perfect costume for World Book Day or Halloween.

Ethan looked really dapper in his Willy Wonka costume. He was at first unwilling to wear it to school as this was his first fancy dress up to school but on seeing himself in the mirror, he was quite happy to do so.

The costume includes a tail coat with a waistcoat attached. The best part of it is the top hat which looks really sweet.

The Willy Wonka costume is available for £16.49

With Halloween approaching, it is a great idea to check out Megafancydress for any costumes you may need. The prices are reasonable and the costumes look great.

Disclaimer: We were send the above two costumes for review. All ideas and opinions are my own.
