Review: Ilumi sauces and meals

As a stay at home mum, I really should not be grumbling about cooking. But then there are some days (well, most days, actually) that I really don’t feel like cooking.

These days I try out new sauces that ensure my meal is cooked in no time. I was pleased to try out a range of sauces from Ilumi.

porkThe first one I tried out was Pork, Mushroom and Madeira. This was not a sauce but an actual dish. I was sceptical about this one because I didn’t believe that it would contain pork pieces but like most other ready meals that come in packets with a long life, I figured it would contain only the essence of pork. I was wrong.

This dish was really tasty and the kids enjoyed it. There were actually big portions of pork in it and the Madeira was subtle yet you could taste it. I was surprised that my son, who is quite a fussy eater, really enjoyed it. Priced at £3.75, it is definitely a good deal and I would recommend trying it.

The next one we tried was the Aromatic Thai Red Curry sauce. I don’t know about you but I am quite a big fan of Thai food. I love the slightly spicy, sweet, tangy taste. This is a sauce – so you need to add it to your ingredients like chicken or vegetables. We added it to chicken, baby corn, shitake mushrooms and carrots. The combination was amazing and we all enjoyed it. It was quite delicious really. It retails at £1.50 and is very worth it.

We were also sent Beef gravy – all we needed to do was heat it in the microwave or on the hob. Well, we had tried making Toad in the Hole and this was the perfect accompaniment. It was so easy, no stirring of granules or powders, no lumps – just a lovely taste to go with the main.

chilliThe last one we tried was the Sweet Chilli Stir Fry Sauce. I cooked this with chicken and it was quite tasty. The gravy of the dish was not too spicy so the children managed to eat it too. Served with rice, the dish was delicious.

The Ilumi products are different – different in a good way that is. What I personally liked about it was the ease of use and the taste. With some products like sauces, one sometimes gets all more or less tasting of the same base but with these, they were all distinctive and that is a great feature.

What’s more the Ilumi products are free from anything artificial or snythetics, preservatives, additives, fillers, flavourings or sweeteners. So no nasties in it and such easy, quick, delicious meals in minutes. What more could a busy mum want?

Disclosure: I was send the above sauces for review. All ideas and opinions are my own.
