Rent a Bridesmaid by Jacqueline Wilson – Book Review

We were recently sent the new Jacqueline Wilson book – Rent a Bridesmaid. Jadyn is a huge fan and was delighted to review this.

The Story

The story starts with a dress…

Tilly’s got a whole wardrobe of bridesmaid’s dresses – a pale pink one, a blue one, even a read one with a soft white trim. The only problem is, they’re all in her imagination. In real life, it’s Tilly best friend Matty who has the beautiful pink dress to wear at the perfect white wedding. Tilly can’t help being a teeny tiny bit jealous – more than anything in the world she would love to be a bridesmaid at her own mum and dad’s wedding. But that isn’t going to happen. In fact, Tilly’s worried she’s never going to be a bridesmaid. So she decides to take matters into her own hands – and offers her bridesmaid’s services for hire…

What we thought

The book is heartwarming and well written and we love the illustrations by Nick Sharratt too.

As with any Jacqueline Wilson book, there is a deeper meaning to Tilly just wanting to be a bridesmaid. She really wants her parents to get back together and would like nothing better than to be a bridesmaid at their wedding.

The author touches on Tilly and Matty’s friendship so sweetly. In spite of them being opposite to each other in so many ways, they are best friends.

Rent a Bridesmaid is one of those children’s books that adults would also enjoy. We loved reading it.

The book retails at £12.99 and is available at all major retailers.
