A few weeks back, I was invited by L&C Mortgages to a rather interesting event. I was going to bake a cake with fellow bloggers. And this was no ordinary cake – it was to be shaped like a house.
I just couldn’t pass this up – could I?
I started the day early looking forward to baking at The London Cookery School.
We were greeted with tea/coffee and some very delicious scones. (the best I’ve ever tasted). We were also given some tips by the head chef.
And then we were assigned a partner to work with.
We were given a basic sponge recipe and the ingredients to make it but we were given full freedom with what we wanted the end product to look like.
And did I mention it was a competition? It was. We also had a time constraint. You have no idea how stressful it can be working against time. It’s rather like building your own house.
We decided to make a (sort of) Hansel and Gretel House with a picket fence.
It was great fun and we had a lovely time doing. I can well imagine how it must be being on the Great British Bake Off.
There were some lovely creations and all looked good enough to eat.
The winner was this gorgeous castle.
I had so much fun creating the house and the best part of it was I didn’t have to clean up the mess. Let’s face it, baking can be a messy business.
