Keep smiling – BritMums #OralBloveyourgums Challenge

A smile is a curve that sets everything straight!

Who doesn’t dream of having the smiles seen on television? I would love to have teeth like that. I do know that they probably spend a good amount to get teeth like that but still…one can dream and then take good care of one’s teeth so that one doesn’t have to visit the dentist too often.OralB_Love-Your-Gums-logo

I never realised the importance of really looking after teeth like I did during pregnancy. I mean, yes, I brush twice a day and floss and use mouthwash. But during my pregnancy no matter what I did, my breath still felt stale and I always seemed to have a metallic taste in my mouth.

I was like a beached whale with my third pregnancy and all I needed to have bad breath to go with it! I mean that really took the biscuit!

I invested in the Oral B electronic toothbrush and believe me, there was a BIG difference. My breath felt fresher and my teeth didn’t feel coated – besides I did see the difference in the whiteness of my teeth. They did not get the pearly white you see in the advertisements but they came pretty close!

I was very surprised to know that gum disease has been linked to heart disease and heart attacks, diabetes, strokes and rheumatoid arthritis. All the more reason for me to invest in a toothpaste that takes care of my gums.

Luckily for me I was among the first 100 to apply to take part in the OralB Love your gums challenge and I received a tube of OralB Pro-Expert Premium Gum Protection Toothpaste. It promised to look after all these areas –

I think that covers everything we worry about, don’t you?

My husband and I have been using it for over 3 weeks now and here’s the verdict–

It keeps breath fresh – when we first brushed with it, I didn’t think it worked because I was used to gel toothpastes that make your mouth feel immediately fresh. This had a mildly minty taste that made the mouth feel clean but there was not the breath of fresh air of the gel toothpaste. The difference was that the more I used it, I realised that while gel toothpastes gave you that initial burst, it did not last long. With the Pro-Expert the breath stayed fresh for a good 12 hours and more and I was sold!

It does help with the sensitivity – I have had sensitive teeth since being pregnant and this has helped in a big way. I can now eat my ice cream without getting my teeth all tingly!

It protects gums – I had had a mild case of bleeding gums during my pregnancy and this carried on, on and off after that. I can quite happily say that this has now stopped.

Whitens – It has made my teeth feel cleaner and while my teeth do not make that sparkling,  twinkling sound – ‘Ting!’ everytime I smile, I do see a difference in the look of my teeth – for the better.

The verdict – we love it and will definitely be adding it to the shopping list.

A few tips on keeping your teeth clean and white and your gums healthy –

  • Have your fruit juices with your meals
  • Avoid alcohol as it could lead to an increased risk of mouth cancer
  • Give up smoking – besides staining your teeth it increases risk of gum disease and lung cancer
  • Cut down on tea, wine and coffee as they stain teeth.
  • Observe good oral hygiene habits – brush for two minutes twice a day – I recommend using an OralB electronic toothbrush with a timer. Don’t think that they are unaffordable. I bought mine for £15 on a half price sale and it was worth every penny. Besides there are always deals on if you search for them.
  • Make sure to floss and use a mouthwash.

Above all – keep smiling!
