Jacintaz3 visits The London Eye: A review

The London Eye – a piece of architectural mastery, the worlds tallest observation wheel when it was first opened in 1999, a not to be missed tourist attraction.

We were given an opportunity to review the London Eye and we were looking forward to it for ages. The children had obviously been near the London Eye to visit Sea Life and always looked up in awe at this great wheel. Who would not want to get onto it?

The queues are long to get onto the London Eye but there are fast track tickets that cut your waiting time by a lot. However, even the normal queues do move at a steady pace.

We had fast track tickets for the London eye and it was nice not to have to line up with the children.

The London Eye does not stop to let people on but it moves slowly so it is quite easy to get on, you don’t really have to sprint to get onto it but yes you do have to be quick. Once inside you are ensconced in an air conditioned capsule that moves really slowly offering you amazing views of London.

I loved looking over Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament. It would have been nice to have an audio tour as there are now interactive touch screens that sometimes make you miss the views. I preferred to just take in the amazing sights.

The children didn’t know where to look – we could see boats that looked tiny and they had been handed a little pack containing binoculars, a pencil, a pen and notebook so out came the binoculars and then started the fun. It was actually a great view from the top made only better with the binoculars.

The children asked loads of questions and this was an unforgettable experience for them. We had read up a bit of the history before visiting so they knew when it was built etc and also what to expect.

I think it is as great for Londoners or local tourists as is for foreign tourists. To be looking from high over London is an experience in itself. The views are breathtaking and I think it is a must visit attraction for both adults and children alike.

Within your ticket price you also get to visit the 4D experience which gives you a lovely feeling of soaring over London with the birds. We visited after going on the London Eye and I think it was nicer than going before. The children were quite taken with the wind and bubble effect.

The London Eye is well connected with transport links. Waterloo Station is the nearest and is a 5 minute walk. There is also lots to see and do around there, along the River Thames. Some attractions include The London Dungeon and Sea Life London.

It is best to book online for the London Eye. For prices and booking options click here.

Here is a video on the making of the 4D experience –

Disclaimer: I was provided with 2 complimentary adult fast track tickets to visit the London Eye. All ideas and opinions are my own.

  1. Great post, I love the London Eye. My best time on there was a sort of booze cruise where they served us with Pimms and lemonade which made me quite wobbly by the end of it!
