Jacintaz3 at the screening of The Lion Guard: The Return of the Roar

On Sunday, we were invited to the screening of  The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar.

Intrigued by the name? Sounds familiar?

I’ll give you a clue – The Circle of Life…

Yes, Disney is bringing to your small screens Simba and his pride with all your favourite Lion King characters and a few more in

The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar

THE LION GUARD - The epic storytelling of Disney's "The Lion King" continues with "The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar," a primetime television movie event starring Rob Lowe, Gabrielle Union and James Earl Jones, reprising his iconic role as Mufasa. Premiering this November on Disney Channel, the movie follows Kion, the second-born cub of Simba and Nala, as he assumes the role of leader of the Lion Guard, a team of animals tasked with preserving the Pride Lands. "The Lion Guard" television series will premiere in early 2016 on Disney Channels and Disney Junior channels around the globe. (Disney Junior) NALA, KION, SIMBA

In preparation for the film, we saw and watched all the films in The Lion King series – The Lion King, The Lion King II – Simba’s Pride and The Lion King III – Hakuna Matata on Disney Life

A little bit about the The Lion Guard as we saw it…

The Lion King II – Simba’s Pride saw Chiara take up her role as future queen of the tribe. The Lion Guard takes you back a bit to when Chiara was younger and introduces us to her younger brother Kion – a cheeky lion with a mohawk mane is set with the task of preserving the Pride Lands and hence maintaining the Circle of Life.

The Lion Guard used to be a group of lions known for their fierceness, bravery, speed, strength and keeness of eye (there’s a twist here) but Kion breaks this tradition and chooses his friends who to his knowledge display these virtues to the hilt. Together with Bunga the honey badger, Fuli the cheetah, Beshte the hippo and Ono the egret, Kion must show this father, Simba that he has made the right choice.

So when the pack of hyenas under Janja decide to attack the pride lands, it is up to the Lion Guard to defend the Circle of Life. Are Kion and his friends up to it?

THE LION GUARD - Disney Television Animation has begun production on "The Lion Guard," an animated television movie and series that continues the story introduced 20 years ago in the acclaimed Disney animated film "The Lion King." Geared towards kids aged 2-7 and their families, "The Lion Guard" television movie will premiere in fall 2015 and the subsequent series will debut in early 2016 on Disney Junior and Disney Channel. I don’t want to spoil things for you so I’m not going to let on any more. Let me just add that this television movie is a lovely addition to the Lion King series of films and the fact that it will be continuing in the form of a television series means that we will continue to have our fill of these lovable animals.

The film has all the fun and music that the other films in the series have and we loved it. The animation was amazing and it was great to be taken back to the Pride Lands and the world of Simba and his friends. Yes, Timon and Pumba feature too. I would so love to tell you ALL about it but I think you need to watch it for yourself. Needless to say the children and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

We saw the film on Sunday but we look forward to watching it again on the 8th of February when it will air on Disney Junior at 5.30 pm. And then we will be eagerly awaiting the start of the series in April. I’m as excited as the children but Disney seems to do that to me. 🙂

Have you watched all films in The Lion King series?
