Once upon a time there lived a mum, who, like all mums was very, very busy in the mornings – packed lunches, breakfast and the school run. She would eat something very quickly or sometimes not eat anything at all for breakfast. The result – she would feel really hungry at about 10 am and then she would snack on a few biscuits. So…not good! One day, the postman delivered a parcel to her – and her life suddenly became ‘all-bran new’.
In the parcel were three boxes of Kelloggs All-Bran Cereal in the following flavours – Golden Crunch, Red Berry Crunch and Chocolate Wheats.
And yes there was a challenge! Now, she was a person who loved challenges and she decided to take up on it. After the second day, she began to see changes in the way she felt and she felt good about herself. So, she started eating her breakfast everyday, stopped snacking (because she didn’t feel the need to any more) and she continued feeling better and better.
And yes…..she lived happily ever after.
That is my All-Bran Story. I took the 5 day challenge and sceptical as I was about the changes it would bring, I started on it without expecting results. I know that fibre is good for one but feeling good in one’s tummy? I mean these are usually sales pitches, right? Wrong.
I tried each of the flavours in turn and here’s what I thought of each.
This had to go first as it was just yum. I loved the stringy texture and of course the chocolate in the centre. The children also enjoyed it.
Red Berry Crunch
A personal favourite. I loved the taste of the crunchy flakes and the chewy berries. And we even used it in a recipe for muffins which was delicious.
Being baked enhanced the flavour of the flakes and this was a hit with Hubs.
I like that the range caters to the entire family. With Kellog’s All Bran’s wide range there is something for everyone.
Now for the main thing – did it really do as promised?
A big definite yes.
I started seeing the change on the second day when I didn’t feel bloated but felt full and managed to go with out a mid morning snack. Definitely a good sign. It made me happier all round.
After the 5 days, I felt positive about the flakes – they were wonderful to taste and had settled my belly too. I even signed up to the All Bran Challenge online here and I was sent an email with tips and recipes and even had a tummy tracker to chart my progress.
“Did you know that 90 to 95 per cent of the ‘happy’ hormone serotonin is made in the gut? A study* of 1,000 UK women found 52 per cent experience digestive complaints, such as bloating or gas, at least once a week. Eating fibre everyday is a simple remedy for happy tums! “
As mentioned we also made some All Bran Muffins and these went down very well with the entire family.
Here is the recipe for Red Berry Crunch All Bran Muffins
125 g flour
125 g Kelloggs All Bran – Red Berry Crunch
125 g sugar
75 g butter
150 ml milk
1 large egg or 2 medium eggs
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon vanilla essence
Pre-heat the oven to 190˚C
Add the milk to the cereal and let it soak while you complete the following steps.
Cream the butter and the sugar.
Mix in the flour, baking powder, vanilla essence and the egg.
Add the milk and All Bran mixture.
Grease a 12 hole muffin tin and add the muffin mixture to each case.
Bake in the oven for about 25 minutes until a skewer inserted into the muffin comes out clean.
Enjoy warm. Store in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks or freeze to enjoy later. (The latter two never happen in our home)
The Muffins was lovely – fluffy with that All-Bran Crunch.
Are you ready to take the All-Bran 5-day challenge?
I leave you with my thoughts on how the Kelloggs All Bran made me feel –
All Bran makes me a happy Mummy –
A lovely sensation in my tummy.
I don’t feel bloated,
A good feeling I noted,
And besides the bran flakes taste so yummy.
