How to make your flowers last longer


There is nothing worse than receiving a stunning bouquet of flowers that only last for a few days. So, if you’re looking for a way to extend the life of your a gorgeous bouquet of flowers from Valentine’s Day,  Mother’s Day or a birthday, here is how to ensure they remain vibrant for as long as possible.

Go fizzy

Now, we are all guilty of having that calorific fizzy drink in our fridge, but believe it or not it is great for our flowers – so, don’t drink it all! Pour just under half a mug of your fizzy drink into the water in your vase and you can guarantee your flowers will bloom that little bit longer.

Top Tip: If you have a glass vase, ensure your fizzy drink is clear, so Sprite etc.

Spray away

Believe it or not; hairspray has more than just one use! It doesn’t only preserve your hair style but can also prolong the life of your flowers. The best way to use this is to simply spray it on the underneath of the petals and leaves.

Apple cider vinegar

This is one of the best ways to increase the lifespan of your flowers – simply add two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar with two tablespoons of sugar and add it to your flower water.


Yes, vodka isn’t just for Friday nights! All you need to do is add a few drops of vodka to the water in your vase and this will prevent bacteria from growing in the water, meaning your flowers will not only look vibrant for longer but they will also survive a great deal more time.

Aspirin Aspirin is one of the best ways to keep your roses from Serenata Flowers alive for a longer period of time; all you need to do is place a crushed aspirin into your water before adding the flowers. But, don’t forget to change the water every few days!


Flowers are proven to last longer if you add a tiny amount of bleach to the water. Some experts also recommend adding a pinch of sugar to the water at the same time for maximum effect.
