Reading expands your knowledge like nothing else. In my opinion.
That’s why I can’t emphasise enough the necessity for children to read. Anything and everything. Suitable for their age group of course.
It is quite hard when one starts off with teaching a child to read. Phonetics have come a long way since I learnt to read and everything is easier now to combine sounds.
My little one enjoys reading at school and learning her phonetics. In fact, all the children are reading well above their age.
What I found really useful was Reading Eggs especially in preparation for school.
Aeryn would go online and we would practise sounds so that she was able to identify sounds before she went into school.
I like Reading Eggs because it has a great way of teaching – through repetition. Around age 5, children learn fast but also forget as easily and it is essential that learning is reinforced through repetition. If you have been to the Reading Eggs website, you will see that there is a lot of repetition and though children may want to pass this over and go on to something new, this is the key to remembering what one has learnt.
Reading Eggs has a great offer on no where you can avail of a 5 week free trial as part of their School Readiness campaign.
It is an amazing offer and is great especially as 5 weeks will cover part of the summer vacation too. This means you can keep up with the learning and have your little one ready for school.
Going on Reading Eggs also helps them to recognise alphabets so they are not at a disadvantage when they go to school. Aeryn loved and still loves going on Reading Eggs because it is so interactive and child friendly.
Don’t forget to sign up for the free trial – the offer is valid only until 30th June so do be quick.

This looks awesome, I will be teaching my little lady Letterland as I did our son (it was very effective) but I may try this!
