With the children demanding their favourite foods time after time, I sometimes find it easy to make things in bulk and then freeze them. I would use freezer safe containers or plastic bags.
Then I was offered a product which changed the way I freeze food and has made my life so much easier.
Food Saver Vacuum Sealers – Have you heard of these? I hadn’t until I was asked if I would like to review one.

My view on the Vaccum sealer
Ease of use – It is extremely easy to use.
You can either use the bag provided or the roll. All you need to do is to put the food in the bag or wrap it in the plastic roll and then lock the lid. While doing this you need to follow instructions as per the book and ensure that you see the green tab at the two sides (letting you know it’s locked correctly). Then, you can either just seal it or you can use the hose provided to vacuum lock it.
There are progress buttons to let you know when the food has been vacuum packed.
Keeps food fresh and preserves quality – The food is kept fresh. I have actually stored products for over a month and this has stayed as fresh as the day it was made.
Easy storage – The machine is sleek and is very easy to store as it can be stored upright.
All inclusive design – This machine incorporates a cutter, built in storage for the roll and it also has a drip tray to collect the excess moisture.
We were also sent a quick marinator canister and this was really handy when I had some unexpected guests over and I needed to marinate some fish. Super easy and super quick. The marinator works in conjunction with the machine and you need the hose pipe to attach it and vacuum seal it to lock in the flavour.
I enjoy using this product. It helps me have home cooked food at the ready for the children and it means I don’t have to be making things from scratch over and over again. It does save me loads of time.
It also helps budgeting when you cook in bulk as it saves time and costs as compared to cooking small batches of food.
I vacuum packed these pancakes as the children love them and now they can have them for breakfast even on a school day.
You can get replacement rolls and bags too. The Food Saver Vacuum Sealers, bags and containers are available at major retailers like John Lewis and Lakeland. A list of retailers can be found here.
This model is priced at £74.99 and one may baulk at the price. But when you think of the savings you’ll be making by reducing wastage and making food in bulk, it is well worth the price.
There are different models available too and you can have a look at these on the Food Saver website
