We are huge fans of anything Disney in our home. How about you?
For anyone who has children, especially little girls, Sophia the First and Doc McStuffins will not be novel to the ears. In fact you probably know most of the songs and tunes from the episodes.
For those who think these are about a real princess and doctor – here is a background to the Disney series.
Doc McStuffins follows the story of Dottie, a six year old girl who would like to be a doctor like her mother. When she puts on her toy stethoscope, her toys magically come to life and with Stuffy, Hallie, Lambie and Chilly, she helps toys feel better. The episodes are about 11 minutes and there are songs in each of them. The series also stress the importance of taking care of oneself and others and the songs follow this theme too.
Sophia the First tells the story of Sophia who has to learn to be a princess when her mother marries the king. While doing so, she learns what it takes to be a real princess through lessons about kindness, forgiveness and generosity.
The TV series, aimed at kids ages 2-7, features a voice cast that includes Ariel Winter (Modern Family) as Sofia, Sara Ramirez (Grey’s Anatomy) as Queen Miranda, Wayne Brady (Let’s Make a Deal) as Clover and Tim Gunn (Project Runway) as Baileywick.
We love the songs in both the series and when we were given an opportunity to review these CDs from Disney, we were looking forward to it.
The first CD we listened to was The Doc is In with songs from Doc McStuffins. The songs are short and sweet and since the children are familiar with the songs, they were able to sing along with the CD and thus enjoyed it all the more. The songs are catchy and teach a little lesson like Eat good food, Because you’re you, Wash your hands so its great for the children to listen to. There are 26 songs on the CD
The Sophia CD has melodious songs and again teach a little lesson in the lyrics. The children sang along as they seem to know the words by heart ( ask them their times tables and they stumble!) Their favourite is Anything and we had to hit the repeat button for that one many times. There are 13 songs on the CD including 2 bonus tracks. I quite like Make some noise!
The series are about little girls but my son also quite enjoys watching them ( as I guess are quite a few other little boys with sisters) . There are toys and animals in the series. Even the songs were enjoyed by him too.
On a recent car journey, I was so thankful to have these CDs as we could all sing along in the car and there were fewer ‘are we there yet’ questions!!
Definitely should be on the Christmas list for little girls. Now which little girl would not like this in their stocking?
