2 weeks back when my door buzzer buzzed – I was pleasantly surprised to receive a bag which had ‘Tesco’ written on it.
I was overjoyed to open it up and find that I had been chosen to review the Hudl from Tesco.

And now – what we thought of it.
We love these bits
I personally love the size – it is easy to hold in one hand, perfect for taking on trips and reading in bed. I love that I can take it wherever I go.
I loved the 123-getting started guide as it was a step by step process on using the Hudl, apps that I may want to download and tips on using it effectively.
I found the guidance on changing settings for children’s use very useful as my children do tend to get on it (a lot) and it was nice to have a process in place so that children do not misuse it or get on the net and watch things they aren’t supposed to. The guide teaches you how to protect your Hudl if children are going to be accessing it.
The card slot makes it handy for increasing storage as you can increase the storage to a 48GB with a Micro-SD card.
With the Hudl, you have access to 850,000 apps from Google Play which is certainly impressive.
If you are a Tesco shopper, which mostly everyone is at sometime or the other, there is a small ‘T’ in the left hand corner of the screen which gives you instant access to Tesco shopping making life really easy.
The access to Blinkbox for movies and music as well as Clubcard TV which gives you free access to a number of good movies is also a good addition to the Hudl. With Blinkbox music you can actually stream and download the latest songs to listen to offline as well. Besides accessing Blinkbox movies, you could also connect it via HDMI to the television and watch it on there.
It has a nice look to it. The anti scratch feature is something that I am most thankful for as with children, one can never tell. It has a nice chunky feel so don’t feel it fragile (like it is going to drop any moment) and the soft touch plastic make it comfortable to handle.
A couple of things we found less great –
The camera is not so great as it does not do well in low light. But then again if I need to take photos I usually use my camera so I am not really fazed by this.
The screen resolution and colours may not be the greatest but it works fine for me. I have watched movies, read books and found it to be a perfectly good experience.
I think this would make a great gift for a child to encourage learning as there are many learning apps available on Google Play. At the price, it is also an extremely affordable option. Tesco has also taken this into account and has made lovely protective bumpers for the Hudl for children to use as well as kids headphones that keep noise levels to 80 decibels to protect children’s ears. So now you dont need to hear the Angrybirds sounds and your child’s ears will be protected too!
I have purchased the leather case to go with it and at £20, it is excellent value. It helps protect the screen, looks elegant and can even have it propped up for me to watch a movie uninterrupted.
I enjoy taking the Hudl with me to bed to catch up on my mail, listen to music and read if I want to. Or maybe just enjoy watcing a movie in bed!
At £119 the Hudl is definitely set to be a hit this Christmas. If you are a Tesco clubcard member, you are in for a treat as you can use your Clubcard Boost to get your Hudl for as little as £60 which I think is a really good deal.
So go on, get yourself or someone you love a Hudl.
