Do you like camping? We’ve been once and though the experience wasn’t the greatest because of the weather, I’d gladly do it again.
We went camping in New Forest last year. Now, you must know that the the New Forest area is just beautiful – stunning scenery and lovely ponies.
We were looking forward to it but the weather played spoilsport and it looked like there was a storm coming. We didn’t really know if we were going until the last moment and since it was our first camping experience, we had a lot to buy.
As usual, we found out that all the children now needed new wellies. We were being provided with camping gear so at least we didn’t have to worry about that. We were also being provided with torches and a little camping kit. We were all sorted with food as we had decided to have a picnic for dinner.
When the day came, there was promise of a full fledged storm hitting us. Luckily it passed but we didn’t really luck out with the rain as it pelted down on us all night. Hubs’ tent had a leak so he had a bit of a soak. Not the best experience for our first ever camp – weather wise.
But you know what? Despite the weather, we had a lovely time. How so? The next day dawned bright and we got to take in the fresh air and beauty of New Forest. We were having a barbecue too and a bug hunt and the children were thrilled. They found the rain at night made it all the more exciting.
I’m seriously looking at getting some camping gear of my own so that we are prepared whenever we decide to camp again. The problem is, I’m not sure what I really need. To start with – what kind of tent? I’d also love a hammock to spend a lazy afternoon reading.
The camping guide is really handy as it tells you all about the camping hotspots in the UK as well as offers tips to cooking while camping. It also has easy camping recipes and tips for attending festivals. What I like best is the handy camping checklist at the end of it. I wish I’d had this before we went camping.
