A lovely family meal at Bella Italia

As we left home for our long awaited holiday, we were not really looking forward to the long four and a half hour drive to Cornwall. This was eased off by the promise of stopping for a lovely birthday lunch at Bella Italia Exeter.

We love Italian food and after a little over 3 hours in the car, we were glad to be welcomed so warmly to this lovely little restaurant.

Bella Italia Exeter is in the heart of the town and there is parking nearby in the shopping centre car park.

Aneta, the manager, greeted us warmly and took good care of us.

For starters, we ordered –

Filo Prawns, Gamberi (prawns) and Calamari.

The two younger ones had garlic bread.

The filo prawns were delicious and so was the Calamari. But the Gamberi was out of this world. The prawns were succulent and the garlic and butter complemented them perfectly. A perfect start to any meal.

For our main course, Jadyn had the Gamberoni prawns in a spicy tomato sauce. It was quite tasty and was not that spicy so she enjoyed it.

Hubs had the Bella Surf and Turf and he said it was cooked perfectly just as requested.

I had the Italian Style Ribs and they were yum. The meat was soft and fell off the bone and the sauce was quite different to normal rib sauces –  in a nice kind of way.

The two younger ones had pizza – margherita and salami and though these were kids sizes they were 8″ pizza and were too generous for them. They could have easily shared one pizza. I liked that the pizza base was classic Italian and the children managed to finish quite a bit of each.

For dessert, we had Pannacotta. I wanted to try out the mix of desserts but everyone was too full up. Pannacotta is my favourite dessert and this was lovely and creamy made more delicious with the cherry compote.

Ethan had Brownie and icecream and Aeryn had the doughnuts with the chocolate sauce. Aeryn was a little surprised that the doughnuts were not round but they were soft and yummy all the same.

We had a lovely meal at Bella Italia and the portions are more than generous so if you are a small eater, you can quite easily share mains.

I would happily recommend Bella Italia for a family meal or a celebration or even a business lunch as there is something for everyone on the menu.

The ambience is lovely and the staff were warm and very attentive without hovering over you constantly. I loved the finger bowl that was provided to clean our hands after our prawn starters.

The children were kept entertained with the activity sheets and colouring in although we didn’t have very long to wait for our courses even though the restaurant was quite full.

Bella Italia has a cosy atmosphere and delicious food and we would definitely be visiting there again.
