A Family Evening in with The Stick Man on DVD – Review

We love Julia Donaldson stories in our home and this has to be one that we missed – The Stickman.

Luckily for us, we were offered a lovely viewing party to celebrate the release of The Stickman on DVD.

We were sent a package of Stickman products that included some Jigsaw puzzles, a Stickman toy, the book and the DVD.

I loved the book and so did the children.

But this is more about the film. There is nothing better than a family getting together and watching a family friendly film together especially when the weather outside is frightful. 🙂

From the creators of The Gruffalo and Room On The Broom, Julia Donaldson’s seasonal delight, Stick Man, is the latest story to be adapted for the small screen. First published in 2008 by Alison Green Books, an imprint of Scholastic Books, Stick Man was written by beloved children’s author Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler.

The Story of The Stick Man

Stick Man lives in the family tree with his Stick Lady Love and their stick children three. One day Stick Man unintentionally ends up on an epic voyage across the country. His marathon adventure takes him across the seasons as he’s taken further away from home, encountering many obstacles on the way including an overzealous dog; being thrown into a river; escaping from a swan’s nest and even ending up on top of a fire.
He’s not an ordinary stick, he’s Stick Man, he’s Stick Man, he’s Stick Man, you see.
Will the Stick Man ever get back to his family tree?

The film is just as you will imagine the story is as you read the book and we enjoyed it. We also enjoyed working on the jigsaws and read the book two nights in a row as a bedtime story.
Here’s an activity sheet for you to print out. I’m sure the children will enjoy it. Mine did.
