The New Market Deli Range From Walkers

Last week, I was pleased to be able to attend the Market Deli event in London.

Market Deli is the new line of chips from the makers of Walkers. Now, this new range is lovely and has been inspired by authentic produce found in delicatessens. It aims to bring home the great variety of flavours as found across Europe and the UK.

I was happy to be able to find out more about the flavours and taste the ingredients that went into final products.

I found the combinations fantastic and blended so well together that one could actually taste each ingredient separately in each chip.

There are 8 different flavours and in addition to the normal chips there are tortilla chips and Pita chips (which I really enjoyed)

We were also treated to a cooking demonstration by Tom Aikens who used some of the deli ingredients to create Gazpacho and Macaroni cheese – both of which were delicious.

At the end of the evening we were given a goody bag which contained 3 flavours of chips.

Mine were – Cornish Mature Cheddar Potato Chips, Wiltshire Cured Ham, mature cheddar and farmhouse chutney Potato Chips and Anglesey Sea Salt with Cracked Black Pepper Tortilla Chips.

The chips are crispy without being hard, if you know what I mean. More crunchy rather than crispy. They are ideal for pre-dinner served with dips or for a snack. The Cornish Mature Cheddar is a bit strong but not so that it is overwhelming. The children who are not really big fans of cheesy crisps finished the packet so I would say that they must be really nice. (As they can sometimes be little fusspots)

The Wiltshire Cured Ham was a big hit with the kids. How do I know? Well, I was away for two days over the weekend and when I came back, my older daughter told me she had saved me some. There was but a handful. I love the fact then when I ate these I could first get the taste of the chutney, then the ham and then the cheese in different phases. It is not suitable for vegetarians as the taste of ham is definitely there.

The Tortilla Chips were really yum and we had them with dips at my youngest daughter’s birthday celebration and it went down a big hit. I love the slightly spicy flavour of the pepper.

I had also tasted the entire range at the event and my favourites were the Roasted Red Pepper with English Tomato Pita Chips, Roasted Red Chilli with Mediterranean Sundried Tomato Tortilla Chips and the Flame Grilled Spanish Chorizo with Roasted Onion Potato Chips. They are simply delicious. Though I have my favourites, I don’t think there was any flavour I did not like. I think the range has something for everyone.

I met Ben from Walkers who was involved in the production and he informed us that there were about 45 flavours that were tried out. He mentioned goat’s cheese and beetroot and that sounds quite delicious so I hope that there will be new flavours in future.

What’s not to love?

The sharing bags are available at a RSP of £2.39 each and the potato chips are also available in single bags of 40g at an RSP of £0.83

The range is available nationwide as of today. I know this is going to definitely be on our list for every weekly shop.
