The Gruffalo Live – Review

We love the Gruffalo. The children enjoy listening to it being read to them and it is by far our favourite bedtime story.

We were recently invited to review The Gruffalo Live at the theatre stage and they were very excited to be going to see it especially as it was the start of the holidays.

The Gruffalo Live mixes a bit of the original lines of the book with music, song and dance and some hilarious antics to make the theatre come alive. How the little mouse outwits his predators and even the menacing Gruffalo is something that is quite amazing.

The actors were able to hold the attention of their young audience by their singing and I think the hands down favourite was the snake’s cheeky song.

The costumes were well done and I am constantly amazed by the way in which these productions run – with the actors doing everything from changing settings to costumes at speedy intervals.

I think the show is aimed at younger children and is perfect for children under 10. It is also not very long and runs for about 40 minutes so is perfect for holding their attention.

We enjoyed the show and the children still sing – ‘I don’t want a nut for Christmas…’
