I love going on holiday and have been lucky enough to visit quite a few places before I had children. I love sightseeing and can walk for hours taking in the sights.
I like going on long holidays but with a family this can be really expensive. I love visiting different cities as I find that there is so much to do there. All cities have great sightseeing, shopping and food and night life.
I also like the fact that city breaks can be short and you do not really need long vacations. It is nice to be able to stay in a hotel and be a part of the hustle and bustle of the city. I have visited a few cities so far – Los Angeles, New York, Rome, Singapore, Venice and a few other little towns around Italy.
My favourite remains Venice. It is a dreamlike experience – not to be missed! The Gondolas, the Bridge of Sighs, The Rialto with its quaint shops – all so romatic!
New York was a real hustle and bustle and I had visited after 9/11 so it was quite something to be standing at Ground Zero and knowing that two massive buildings had existed there.I had visited when the construction of the memorial was underway. I also loved Fifth Avenue and Times Square as I had read so much about them in novels.
Singapore is a great place to shop in. I used to have a great time shopping all day while Hubs attended meetings. The shops are also open till late so all the better. And the food – there are food courts all over the place so the smell of food can make one really hungry. Of course, you never put on weight simply because there is so much walking to do while shopping.
Los Angeles has the most amazing weather with it never too hot nor too cold and of course there is Disneyland. Jadyn was 3 when we went and we had the most amazing time.
I have been lucky to visit and luckier to have relatives to stay with, in all these places.
Holiday breaks in cities are so educative as well for children. All cities have a marvellous history and I think that the best way to learn about a culture and place is to visit it. With most city breaks you can also book tours of the city so you make the most of your holiday.
Two places (among others) that I would absolutely love to visit are Egypt and Iceland. I have this strong compulsion – like someone beckoning me – to visit the Pyramids (do you think maybe I was an Egyptian princess in my last life?)
I would love to take the children to see the Northern Lights. I would also like to visit Paris, Mauritius, Florida…well, I think I will stop with the naming here!
All this talk has made me want to go on holiday. What about you? Which cities have you visited? Leave me a comment below to let me know.
