The importance of red meat in a child’s diet cannot be stressed enough. It provides a range of nutrients vital to development as it contains iron, zinc, and B vitamins, selenium and potassium. In recent times, there have been negative views about red meat but including a small portion of red meat in a chid’s diet helps to maintain good health even beyond childhood.
I was asked to come up with a dish that my family enjoys that contains red meat and I felt that nothing can beat a good old-fashioned Cottage Pie. I find that a cottage pie is easy to make and it can also contain a mix of vegetables to keep the balance. I used Elfe potatoes for this one and it was just delicious.
The children loved this dish and went for seconds too. I served it with a tomato, sweetcorn and rocket salad and olive bread. In fact my daughter said it has that kind of warm feeling that tells you autumn/winter is near which is the most exciting months for them. (Obviously with Christmas featuring in a big way).
