Everyone needs to eat, but it is a careful balance between getting what you need and overdoing it. If you’re not careful the amount you pay on groceries could add up quite a bit, and who wants to spend more than they need to anyway? Planning a little ahead is sometimes all you need to do. One of the first most basic things you can do is no to go to the grocery store hungry. This might be difficult—especially because you may not have something you feel like snacking on. You are, obviously, going to the store to get food for a reason. If you can find something to fill your stomach for a while and bide a little time, however, you won’t regret it. Going to the grocery store on an empty stomach is one of the easiest ways to overspend and actually get a lot more food than you genuinely need. It’s something most humans on earth have experienced doing, but at least it is also something you can probably avoid.

Shop with a list instead of going there and buying off of your memory. This helps you stay within a guideline instead of buying an excess of food you don’t need and/or the wrong kind. It can save you additional trips to the store if you forget something important, too, which of course can also save you money. If you make a list, remember it, and stick to it when you go to the store, you will find shopping a much easier and likely cheaper experience.

While shopping for groceries don’t forget to compare prices. The best way to do this is to check on the price tag for the price per unit so you don’t have to do the math in your head. You can also use the price per unit to see if buying in bulk might be cheaper all around, because usually it is. If it is something that you can store and use over a period of time, like paper towels, bulk might be a much better option. A lot of times generic brands offer almost exactly the same content as brand names but at much lower prices, as can be seen clearly by comparing prices.

First thing that will definitely save you money at the register is coupons. A significant amount of money can be saved when you go to the store with coupons. Even if you don’t compare prices or take a list, having plenty of coupons and a good, organized coupon plan can make all the difference. 1. I think that is the best advice – never go to the supermarket hungry! I tend to buy products that not only do I not need, but are generally pre made products that are quick to prepare and generally unhealthy. I think it’s also important to go with a bit of time up your sleeve….
