If you’ve been following my blog, you’ll know I love and write poetry. Some of it I share with you and some are written for my eyes only.
I was invited to take part in a campaign by Viking for World Poetry Day – which is today by the way. I was sent a lovely creative package to inspire me which included a gorgeous calligraphy feather pen. It was a delight to use the age old method of dipping the pen in ink and writing. I think I got a little carried away.
But, the main idea of the campaign was for me to write a poem. So here goes –
I’d Love To Be A Poet
I’d love to be a poet…
And write my thoughts in verse.
Things I see and things I love
And even things I curse!
Poems of love and laughter,
Of luck and of success,
Poems of joy and pleasure,
Of smiles and happiness.
Poems about the river,
Or maybe the babbling brook.
Of clouds on high that seem most nigh,
And eagles and geese and rooks.
Poems of sorrow and sadness
Where I can vent my plight –
Of loneliness and heartache
Of darkness in the night.
I’d love to write great poetry
Of love and Halcyon days,
That bring comfort and contentment
In each and every way.
I hope I’ll be a poet
And live my days carefree
And write of things within my life
That mean the most to me.
