Birds Eye Peas – From picked to frozen in 2 and a half hours

A few days ago I wrote a post about growing my own mini pea garden. Well the peea garden is growing just fine and we are hoping to enjoy fresh peas soon.

In the meantime, we normally use BirdsEye frozen peas as I find them really handy to have to add to pasta, curries, pies and to serve as a side with roast dinners.

So, where do these come from and how do they stay so fresh?

The Great British pea harvest is now officially underway with fieldsman working twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week for the next eight weeks.

Thousands of tonnes of garden peas and petit pois are due to be picked by leading pea producer Birds Eye as part of a military style operation to ensure that the much loved vegetable goes from picked to frozen in less than two and a half hours.

Below are some stunning images of the entire process
